Easter, Where are You?

For the first time since we began ministry 35 years ago, we are not in a typical pastoral role…and tomorrow is Easter, the greatest and holiest day of celebration in the church year.

Instead, we are searching for an Easter worship experience in the land of great spiritual darkness…India. I wonder if the Hindus know that it’s Easter or what Easter commemorates. I don’t see any Easter bunnies, eggs, or baskets in the shops. I certainly don’t see any crosses. How many Americans have never heard the word “Easter”? or Jesus? Though many Westerners haven’t accepted the message of Easter, they most likely have heard the story. In India, however, there are over 4,000 people groups representing well over a billion people who have not yet even heard the words much less the story of the cross and the resurrection. The same is true for many South Asian countries…but who’s going to tell them?

One of our Global DAWN Network indigenous associates from Bhutan, currently living in Siliguri, India, spoke these words to his ministry partners:
“Every born again Christian is a missionary…”
“Being a Christian is a whole life commitment, a 24/7 full-time job…”
“No one should hear the gospel twice...” (His way of saying we need to concentrate on people who have not yet heard.)
“Lord, send who?...me!”

These statements are not only for those who live in the third-world where the needs are great and bringing the message of the love and hope of Jesus is crucial to the “end game” and fulfilling the “Great Commission,” but we as Americans need to listen up as well.

We pray that the Christ of the resurrection fills your heart and life with a passion to “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength. And love your neighbor as yourself.”

Have a blessed Easter!
