The Jesus of Easter

New Delhi, India, is not a bastion of Christianity. In fact in comparison to the population of the city, a very, very small number of its people are even aware of the existence of the Jesus of Easter, the cross, and resurrection.

In our search for an Easter worship service, we met a man, Richard K., from the Bible Society, who offered to take us to his church—Global Christian Life Center. They met in an old auditorium, dim lights, worn out theatre seats, carpet thick with dust, but a place inhabited by the Holy Spirit. The words of the songs…He Lives; Celebrate, Jesus, Celebrate; and My Redeemer Lives, just to name a few, filled the room as hundreds of Indians and Africans (and four white faces) lifted their voices and hands to the Lord. Tears rolled down my cheeks as I realized my Jesus is the same risen Lord worshipped worldwide and He cares for every one of His children, no matter the language, the culture, the caste. But I also realized the task is not finished until the last days when every language, tribe, and people group will worship at the throne and in front of the Lamb crying out in a loud voice— “Praise and glory and wisdom and thanks and honor be to our God forever and ever. Amen.”
